"If they are not cutting and pasting from the internet they may need to be able to type information from books or handwritten notes. I agree they have to have access to computers--my students blog, create wikis, write stories, do research, do online book discussions, (using Moodle), do webpages, The kids that can type well are much better communicators in writing than the hunt and peckers. The kids that can't type give up--we never see in print what they have to say. Keyboarding is a skill--like handwriting. Kids that do it well produce more in writing. Yes, I know they can do podcasts, videos, etc but eventually an intelligent person needs to be able to express themselves in writing."

1. Read your quote and determine what question about the great keyboarding debate it addresses
Kids that type are better typers are better communicators?
2. Restate the quote in your own words.
Kids that are able to keyboard easier are able to produce more in their writing and are better communicators.
3. Determine its implications for your students, you, your colleagues, and your district.
I think that technology and opportunities be available and practiced regularly so that the skills are mastered.
4. What questions and/or concerns does this raise for you? What support and/or resources to you need to further your understanding or learnings about this topic?
We would never want handwriting to become obsolete, but keyboarding is essential as well.
